We’ve received reports of bogus calls made from the following telephone number: 0116 502 2016. The caller claims to be from One Housing and requests photos and other details.

If you receive a call from this number, please don’t engage. Any requests from us for that kind of information would be accompanied by some other type of communication e.g., a letter.

  • Staying safe in hot weather

    supporting image

As temperatures are exceptionally high this week, here are some tips to keep you and your loved ones safe.

    Outside

    • Try to keep out of the sun between 11am to 3pm, when UV rays are strongest.
    • Take water with you if you have to go out. Apply sunscreen before you leave and wear a wide-brimmed hat – and try to walk in shady areas.
    • On car journeys, make sure babies, children, older or sick people aren’t left alone in parked cars as these can heat up very quickly. This also applies to pets.

    Inside

    • Keep your home or office cool by closing curtains or shutters on rooms that face the sun.
    • Turn off non-essential lights and electrical equipment – they generate more heat.
    • Drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol.

Generally, try to do as little as possible, particularly during the hottest parts of the day. Learn how to spot the signs of dehydration or heatstroke – and please remember to check on older people or sick neighbours, family or friends every day.

  • Balcony safety

    supporting image

When it’s warm outside, we open our windows and doors more frequently. However, please remember about the dangers this can bring for young children living above the ground floor.

If you have window opening restrictors, please use them.

If you have a balcony, keep the door locked when you are not using it.

Please also consider installing a child-proof gate that you can keep locked when you are not in the room and don’t want to lock the balcony door. You must never allow young children access to a balcony when an adult cannot be present.

For more balcony safety tips, please visit our website.

Do you run a TRA, community group, or club that supports One Housing or Riverside residents?

If so, you could benefit from our new £250,000 Community Fund.

Through the Riverside Foundation, we’ve made £250,000 available in 2022/23 to help fund projects that promote opportunities and wellbeing and tackle poverty in our communities.

There are three levels of funding:

under £3,000, which has a relatively simple bidding process

between £3,000 – £10,000, which requires slightly more input

grants above £10,000 for which we’ll require some more detailed information to ensure the money will make a really big difference to our residents.

There’s no closing date and we’ll come back to you as soon as we’ve assessed your application.

For more information or to request an application form, please email residentengagements@onehousing.co.uk.

  • Delays to lift repairs due to a global shortage of parts

    supporting image

We know that some of our residents experience issues with lifts in their blocks. Unfortunately, we are unable to repair them as quickly as we would like due to a global shortage of components such as drivers, control panels, relays, push stations and buttons.

The delay is likely to last for the next few months and affects everyone, not just One Housing.

Our contractors are working hard to find replacement parts from a variety of suppliers to reduce repair times wherever possible.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while we find solutions to this issue.

  • Do you qualify for the Household Support Fund?

    supporting image

We know that sudden unexpected costs can create real challenges if you’re already experiencing financial difficulties.

To help families, the Government has extended a grant for households, known as the Household Support Fund, to provide short-term financial support to anyone who is struggling to cover essentials such as food, clothing and utilities. It will also be available where existing housing support schemes such as Housing Benefit, Universal Credit and Discretionary Housing Payments can't meet a family or household’s needs.

Please contact your local council directly to find out more about how you can apply and whether you qualify for the additional funds.

You can apply for funding up until 30 September 2022.

  • Bringing fibre to your home

    supporting image

As the world becomes more and more digital, we understand our residents need access to super-fast broadband.

That is why we are working with cable providers and telecommunications consultants to devise a planned programme of works to put ‘fibre’ (the new cables replacing the old copper cables) in our blocks by 2025.

This means we will improve the quality and efficiency of the networks that bring internet and media content into your homes. It will also ensure you have a choice of internet provider, package and price.

The installation of cabling can be complex involving excavating trenches outside properties and drilling holes in walls and floors. We need to consider how and where holes are drilled in the building, how they will be fire stopped and whether they will be close to other electrical and mechanical installations. This is the reason why the cable providers must seek our permission before commencing any work.
