Repairs policy - new video out now
over 1 year agoRepairs are one of the most important services we provide. But whose responsibility is it when your door lock needs replacing? Or your electrical wiring needs repairing? Or the living room needs redecorating? How about when a smoke alarm battery needs replacing? Or some minor plaster cracks need filling?
The answer to these and other key questions can be found on our new Riverside and One Housing Repair Policy video, now available on our website.
In simple terms, this short video explains our responsibilities, your responsibilities, and our service standards. It shows you how to report repairs via the MyOneHousing app, and how quickly you can expect them to be dealt with. Take a look for yourself ➡️ Repairs Policy video

Sprouting libraries
over 1 year agoAt this time of year, we expect the flowers to grow and the cherry trees to blossom, but the sprouting of Little Green Libraries at our Hillview and Gray’s Inn sites has come as a delightful surprise.
In recent years the ‘take a book, share a book’ philosophy has led to the setting up of volunteer-led mini libraries in all kinds of community settings.
Our two are great examples of how One Housing’s Environmental Improvement Bid supports ideas to improve the community environment for our residents.
This budget gives our Resident Panels, Housing teams and residents the ability to make small-scale improvements to their local area.
What small but significant change or addition could improve where you live? And how could you, alongside your neighbours, help bring it about? If you have an idea how to make your neighbourhood an even better place to live, 'get the ball rolling' by sharing it here.

Noisy neighbours?
over 1 year agoOur recently launched Noise App is having an effect. The smart phone-based app allows our Community Safety Team to easily review and manage ASB noise cases. Residents can use the app to submit noise recordings to us, enabling us to review the recordings and take the required actions.
Our Community Safety Manager Lee Andrews says: “Since the launch of the Noise App we are already noticing a much more streamlined approach in respect of our noise related ASB investigations. We are in a position to resolve noise issues faced by our residents more quickly than before, and we are confident that the app will continue to help us deliver a better ASB noise service to our residents.”

What makes a community?
over 1 year agoIt’s a word that gets banded about today probably as much as it ever has, but what is community, where do we find it, and why do we prize it so highly?
It may just be this writer’s age, but when we think of community, isn’t our first thought often that of a village? A place where everyone knows everyone, and everyone looks much the same. Where the pace of life mirrors the pace of change: slow.
Very few of us live there nowadays! Modern life is invariably urban, fast, diverse and digital. We’re as likely to bond with someone on the other side of the globe, via the internet, as we are to know and be friendly with our immediate neighbours.
Yet some things haven’t changed. We do all still have neighbours – whether we know them or not. We still live in distinct neighbourhoods, sharing the same shops, places of worship, public amenities.
Today’s internet communities and the other society-wide groups we relate to are all well and good, but they won’t put your bins out when you’re away for a few days. Nor are they likely to join you down at the Town Hall to protest the closure of your local community centre.
We still need community in that old-fashioned sense, just as much as we ever did. One Housing does what it can to support and encourage community initiatives. Our current Community Fund a brilliant example if we say so ourselves. This platform (the clue’s in the name), another one.
But ultimately community relies on all of us – residents, neighbours, citizens.
From the smallest gesture of kindness and consideration, through to the heroic efforts of the devoted community champion, what examples can you think of?
Go on, start a conversation. Describe a time when you witnessed, felt part of, or benefited from community. Who knows where it could lead…
