  • Community Centre gets a makeover

    supporting image

A huge thank you to all the volunteers from Deutsche Bank who helped with the repainting of the Flower and Dean Community Centre a couple of weeks ago.

Says Resident Engagement and Partnerships Officer, Amma Nkrumah: “We partnered up with an organisation called Team UP, a social enterprise (Not-For-Profit), based in the Volunteer Centre Camden, Kentish Town. Team Up are experts at matching business requirements to volunteer projects and programmes that meet local social priorities.”

Amma went on to thank colleagues Linda Kelly, Sacha Black and Martin Swann for their support in getting the initiative off the ground. Isn’t teamwork grand?

The sunny main meeting room, with its pleasing floor to ceiling windows looking out on the courtyard, is very versatile and can play host to a variety of activities and events.

If you would like to use the centre, or know of a local group that would, please get in touch with your Amma Nkrumah at residentengagements@onehousing.co.uk

  • Scrutiny panel is here

    supporting image

Following your feedback during our Resident Engagement Strategy consultation, we were pleased to support residents to create a new Scrutiny Panel, the resident-led body charged with the job of inspecting different services provided by One Housing. It has been made up of a number of residents, including those living in your local area.

First up for their inspection is our Customer Service Contact Centre.

“This is our own process,” said one member, “it isn’t being imposed by officers of One Housing – and we very much want to have your opinion as to the most important aspects of the Contact Centre. Your comments will influence the areas that we investigate.

“If you have suggestions or comments to make, we would be happy to hear from you. You can contact us via the Resident Engagement Team at residentengagements@onehousinggroup.co.uk.”

  • Could you teach English and Maths?

    supporting image

We’re pleased to have partnered with Tutors United to offer free weekly English and Maths tuition to some of our young residents in years 4, 5, and 6 (8-11 years old).

Tutors United are now recruiting new tutors for the academic year 2023-24. If you’re a recent graduate, or a student currently studying for a degree, this might be for you.

Sessions take place Monday to Friday online with some face-to-face sessions at four of our community centres, including Flower and Dean.

As a part-time tutor, you will be paid the London Living Wage. In addition, you’ll benefit from great work experience (excellent on the CV), and the chance to pass on some of your recently acquired knowledge and insights to children eager to learn.

  • Spring Exhibition

    supporting image

Spring is a beautiful season, and it promises to be even more so this year down at Flower and Dean Community Centre.

The centre –itself looking very smart in a fresh new coat of paint – will play host to an exhibition of paintings created by residents.

The residents have been attending art workshops at the centre, learning how to draw, sketch and paint on canvas.

The workshops continue, but the work-in-progress has already revealed hidden talents and budding creativity.

In addition to creating beautiful pictures, the residents have talked about how these classes have brought them altogether, allowed them to become absorbed in the process of creativity, and provided therapeutic benefits.

Residents are invited to enjoy some of those ‘therapeutic benefits’ for themselves, by popping along to see the exhibition. You never know – you might be inspired!

We’re delighted to work with non-profit organisation Tutors United to provide free weekly lessons in Maths and English to school children in years 4, 5 and 6 (8-11 years old) over the 2022/23 academic year.

    • After 12 hours of tuition, pupils improve their performance in maths by 35%.

We have a limited number of spaces available for face-to-face tuition that takes place every Monday at Flower and Dean Community Centre, 41 Flower and Dean Walk, Spitalfields, London E1 6QT.
